The 200th birth anniversary of Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati, a great personality of modern India, an eminent scholar of the Vedas, and founder of the Arya Samaj, will be celebrated at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad on Sunday, October 8.
The grand celebration has been organized by the Gujarat Prantiya Arya Pratinidhi Sabha. Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat will preside over the function and Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel will be present as the Chief Guest. The Aryaveer Dal and Aryavirangan Dal will perform the march past and give a guard of honour to the dignitaries. Prominent personalities from across Gujarat and all over the country will participate in the event and pay homage to Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati, who was born at Tankara in present-day Morbi in Gujarat.
The celebration will inspire the coming generations to follow the path of Vedas taught by Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati. Various organisations belonging to the Arya Samaj, which he founded in Mumbai in 1875, have charted a comprehensive action plan of two-and-a-half years. Incidentally, 2025 also marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of Arya Samaj.
In this period, grand programmes will be organised in the capitals of all states of the country and in 35 countries across the world. Various competitions and seminars will also be organised on a wide range of topics in India and overseas. For the wider promotion of Vedic culture, high-level conferences, publication of Vedic literature, greeting advertisements and many other activities will be undertaken by Gurukul, Arya Samaj temples, DAV institutions, and other institutions of Arya Samaj.

Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati was a strong scholar and supporter of Hindi and Sanskrit, a proponent of women’s education and empowerment, strived to eradicate superstitions, and pioneered many reforms such as the rebirth of the Gurukul education system in modern times. He also authored Satyarth Prakash, an eternal and highly influential work on the philosophy of the Vedas, and several other books, which deeply influenced millions of people in India and abroad.
