Aiming to create breast awareness among the masses during October, Simbalian Cycling Community, Ahmedabad Cancer Foundation, HCG Cancer Care Hospital and Roche Pharmaceuticals have announced a Cyclothon for Breast Cancer Awareness in Ahmedabad on Sunday, October 31.
The ‘Iron Man of India’ Sardar Vallabbhai Patel’s birthday, October 31, is being celebrated as National Unity Day. To pay tributes to him, over 200 cyclists will take part in this cyclothon. This 15-km cyclothon will commence at 6:45 am from Gotila Garden on Sindhu Bhavan Road and reach the HCG Cancer Care Hospital and culminate at Gotila Garden.
Those who are interested to take part in this health awareness event can register online at www.simbalian.org/events. All participants will be given photograph, e-certificate and breakfast on successful completion of the event, the organizers said.
Speaking to the media, Simbalian Cycling Community founder and architect Jignesh Patel (Jiggy) said, “We are committed to developing the sport of cycling and cultivating a positive lifestyle. Through this cyclothon we want to create awareness on breast cancer prevention. Also cycling is the best fitness activity under Fit India Movement. This is an apt initiative to pay rich tributes to Sardar Patel. Cancer care specialist Dr DG Vijay of HCG Cancer Care Hospital and director of Vasani Construction Kiran Vasani will jointly flag off the event at Vasani Corporate House.”
Talking about breast cancer, Dr DG Vijay said that ‘prevention is the best cure’. Both men and women should go for breast cancer tests at regular intervals. With the advancement in medical field, cancer is now curable. By following right food habits and changing the lifestyle one can keep the breast cancer at bay, Dr DG Viay added.
Jignesh Patel added that about 20 cyclists will leave from Ahmedabad on Saturday and reach the Statue of Unity at Kevadia on Sunday to pay their respects to Sardar Patel.
