Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah visited the Ahmedabad International Book Fair on Friday, where he distributed books to children and interacted with publishers while touring several thematic stalls set up at the venue.
In a message shared on X, Shah emphasised that books remain powerful instruments not only for knowledge acquisition but also for shaping an individual’s personality, values and worldview. He lauded the fair—jointly organised by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the National Book Trust (NBT)—for its role in promoting the habit of reading across age groups.
Shah noted that this year’s edition offers a rich blend of activities including literary sessions, folk song performances, poetry recitations and a dedicated start-up forum, making it an intellectually vibrant platform for learners, writers and innovators. Such initiatives, he said, help children and youth expand their imagination while acquiring new skills.
Calling the book fair a cultural and educational catalyst, Shah added that events of this scale nurture an enlightened and empowered young generation—one that reads, questions, innovates and contributes meaningfully to society.
