A marathon for women – 3rd edition of Bajaj Electricals Pinkathon Ahmedabad 2020 – to create awareness on breast cancer will be held on March 1 at Sabarmati Riverfront in the city.
This is the 52nd Pinkathon with a message to the women irrespective of all groups, including pregnant women, new moms, visually and physically impaired, are participating, said Pinkathon founder Milind Soman.
Addressing a press conference, Milind Soman said the marathon, one of the largest participation of women has been organised for the past 8 years since 2011.
“We wanted to understand what was stopping women from participating, and the responses helped create many new and exciting experiences, India’s first saree run and cycle rally, the first women-only half marathon, the first visually impaired women’s squad, the treks for cancer survivors and the babywearing walks,’’ Soman said.
The Pinkathon doll and medals for the runners are made from those affected by Tsunami in Puducherry, hence, everybody should wear it to help the families, Soman said.
“Pinkathon was organised so far at Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kathmandu in Nepal, Chennai, Delhi, Pune and Guwahati in 2019 and it has been committed and connected for one cause – ‘health for every woman’”, said Reema Sanghavi, Co-Founder Pinkathon & Managing Director, Maximus MICE & Media Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
Reema said, “This is being done to encourage fitness for all women and promote the message of “Har gharmeinPinkathon” which revolves around the idea of fit women = fit families = fit society and hence a fit nation.”
Gujarati Actor Esha Kansara and Geeta S Rao, whose left leg is inactive below the waist will also be representing and running the 21K race category. TakhuTukadiya, a visually impaired runner with 70% impairment for 5K race category, Nikita Jaimin Panchal, a babywearing mother for 3 km race category, Renu Mittal, a sexagenarian for 10K race category and Pragnya Shah, a cancer survivor also for the 10K race category were present.
