NE BUSINESS BUREAU
AHMEDABAD, JUNE 16

In a decisive move to redefine the future of maritime logistics through artificial intelligence, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has significantly expanded its strategic partnership with US-based technology company Kaleris, paving the way for one of the world’s most advanced AI-enabled port operating ecosystems.

The multi-year collaboration forms a key pillar of APSEZ’s ambitious growth strategy that envisages an investment of USD 850 million in technology and decarbonisation initiatives as it advances towards its target of handling one billion tonnes of cargo annually by 2030.

As part of the enhanced partnership, Kaleris will deploy its AI-augmented, plug-and-play terminal operating platform across 15 APSEZ container terminals spanning nine domestic and international ports, creating a seamless digital infrastructure that integrates planning, automation, optimisation and real-time operational intelligence.

The expansion builds upon the successful first phase of deployment across six ports and is expected to establish a unified digital backbone that delivers greater operational consistency, enhanced visibility and end-to-end efficiency across APSEZ’s rapidly expanding maritime and logistics network.

The implementation of Kaleris’ Advanced Optimization platform is projected to generate substantial productivity gains, including up to 20 per cent improvement in Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) crane productivity and as much as 14 per cent enhancement in terminal truck productivity, enabling APSEZ to scale operations more efficiently while delivering superior customer value.

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), APSEZ, said, “AI-enabled automation will define the next frontier of competitiveness in ports and logistics. While APSEZ has already deployed an end-to-end digital platform from shore to door, which provides seamless track-and-trace and integrated command and control capabilities, the Kaleris integration will enhance productivity, improve turnaround time, and consistently deliver a superior customer experience.”

Echoing the significance of the partnership, Kirk Knauff, President and CEO, Kaleris, said: “APSEZ is demonstrating the real impact of an AI-enabled port network at scale. Expanding to all 15 terminals reflects the results already achieved and the trust behind this partnership. At Kaleris, we measure success by customer outcomes, and with N4 and our Advanced Optimization solutions, those results can now be amplified across the entire network.”

As global cargo volumes continue to rise and supply chains become increasingly sophisticated, APSEZ is accelerating investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), computer vision and advanced optimisation technologies to enable smarter resource allocation, predictive decision-making and real-time operational visibility.

The deployment will further strengthen Kaleris’ N4 Terminal Operating System (TOS) across APSEZ’s network, improving yard utilisation, enhancing planning precision, reducing vessel turnaround time and ensuring more reliable cargo movement for customers.

The partnership is also expected to play a critical role in unlocking 91 million metric tonnes (MMT) of additional cargo handling capacity by 2030, representing nearly 10 per cent of APSEZ’s installed capacity, while reinforcing the company’s leadership in integrated multimodal logistics.

From taking over a decade to handle its first 100 million metric tonnes of cargo to now targeting one billion tonnes annually, APSEZ’s growth story reflects the rapid evolution of an interconnected logistics ecosystem spanning ports, rail, roads, trucking, warehousing and cargo gateways—powered increasingly by digital intelligence and automation.
