The Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) and Ahmedabad Family Physicians Association (AFPA) on Tuesday announced the launch of 12th edition of week-long ‘Doctor on Call during Diwali’, a free healthcare service, in Ahmedabad.

Speaking with media, Ahmedabad Medical Association president Dr Dilip Gadhavi said, “We are launching the 12th edition of of week-long ‘Doctor on Call during Diwali’, a free healthcare service, in Ahmedabad. This service will be available between 7 am and 10 pm from Wednesday to Tuesday, November 3 to 9. This is our voluntary service to help cope with the shortage and absence of doctors during Diwali. We have a panel of 16 coordinators who will ensure that the patient is directed to the nearest doctors. This time, we have specialist doctors for the all patients.”

Dr Gadhavi further said the trend points out to an increase in cases of Chikungunya,  Dengue and several other viral infections.

Replying to a query on spike in coronavirus immediately after the Navratri festivals, he said that everyone ought to follow the COVID guidelines issued by the government in letter and spirit to keep it at bay.

Ahmedabad Family Physicians Association president Dr Direndra Sanandiya said, “This year our panel of specialists will ensure the safety of all with the help of the coordinators spread over entire Ahmedabad. There will be central helpline numbers area wise which anybody can call to get assistance and find out doctors in there nearby area. In case of non-emergency cases patients can send query via WhatsApp to the doctors who will give reply at ease when they are free.”

The medical bodies on Tuesday gave out a list of contact details of doctors from each speciality who would act as a coordinator for those who call them with an emergency.
