AMARAVATI, DECEMBER 4
With an aim to help the handloom weavers to sell their products worldwide, the Andhra Pradesh State Handlooms Weavers’ Cooperative Society (APCO) has entered into an MoU with the e-Commerce major Amazon, said state Minister for IT and Industries Makapati Goutham Reddy.
Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, the minister said that the government has entered into an agreement with the Amazon to benefit those involved in handloom production. As many as 104 variety of handloom products will be marketed through Amazon. Moreover, the products will be available all the time worldwide and are guaranteed as they are certified by APCO and recognized by the government of Andhra Pradesh. The major benefits of this agreement are that the APCO will be charged with one of the lowest commissions by the e-commerce major. The commission will be restricted to 8 percent on the sale of APCO products. Whereas, Amazon’s charge for other vendors is 15 per cent.
Sarees, towels, lungies, dothies, chunnies/duppatas, dress materials, bed sheets, napkins are among the APCO products that have been listed on Amazon.
The minister said that before implementation of GST, the tax burden was on the consumers, whereas it is being collected from sellers, it means whatever the GST we get for APCO will be reimbursed to the government of Andhra Pradesh, he added.
“One biggest advantage is, the product will be sent only after completing the payment. Previously the seller used to sell products on credits,’ the minister added
