The Department of History of Aligarh Muslim University and the School of Languages and Language Education, Central Institute of Classical Tamil, Chennai are holding an online international conference on ‘Tolkappiyam and its Relevance with Classical Tamil and History’ ‘ on Tuesday and Wednesday – April 25 and 26, 2023, says a joint statement of these institutes’ coordinators Prof. S. Chandnibi of the Department of History of Aligarh Muslim University and Prof. R. Chandrasekaran, Director, of Central Institute of Classical Tamil.

- This two-day conference is planned to bring to the world the excellence and richness of Tolkappiyam, which includes individuality, motherhood, influence on contemporary literature, and the creation of foreign language literature.
- The chief guest will be Dr. A. Sanmugadas, an honorary professor, Dept. of Tamil at Jaffna University in Sri Lanka
- The research papers on Tolkappiyam and its relationships with classical Tamil and history will be put forward by 12 professors at universities from Malaysia, Germany, Tanzania, and various Indian states.
This two-day international conference is planned to bring to the world the excellence and richness of Tolkappiyam, which includes individuality, motherhood, influence on contemporary literature, and the creation of foreign language literature.
Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, will preside over the inaugural ceremony on Tuesday. Prof. R. Chandrasekaran, Director of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil will deliver a welcoming address. The coordinator of this conference Prof. S. Chandinibi will deliver the lecture on the aims of this conference, and Prof. Nishat Fatima, a professor of library and information science, is going to deliver the concluding remarks.

The research papers on Tolkappiyam and its relationships with classical Tamil and history will be put forward by 12 professors at universities from Malaysia, Germany, Tanzania, and various Indian states.
Some of these essays explain that the ancient Tolkappiyam is not only a text on grammar but also a repository that reflects the culture, civilization, and history of the ancient society and the literary composition. Other writings speak about the similarity of the Tolkappiyam in various other languages, challenges encountered during translation, and the solutions.
The objective of these seminars is to lay the groundwork for comparative studies between the two languages and various research initiatives.
The valedictory function of this international conference is scheduled to be held on Wednesday. Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg, Head of Political Science at Aligarh Muslim University will be present as the special guest and will deliver a keynote address. The Head of the Hindi Department of Aligarh Muslim University Prof. Mohammad Ashiq Ali will be the guest of honor and Dr. R. Bhuvaneshwari, Registrar, Central Institute of Classical Tamil will deliver the felicitation address.
