AMARAVATI, DEC 12
Minister for Industries and Commerce Mekapati Gautam Reddy said the third Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) of Andhra Pradesh would be established at Srikalahasti in Chittoor district. Electronic manufacturers can set up their units according to their needs, the minister said.
Replying to a question posed by a member Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, the Minister said that some of the manufacturing units of NTPC and BHEL Power Project at Mannavaram were closed down while others were not functioning as they were found not viable due lack of demand.
He said that the two major industries are being consulted about Mannavaram project and that alternatives would be sought if the solar power plant was not set up there as it was found not feasible.
He said efforts were being made to set up other companies at Mannavaram and that (Electronic Manufacturing Cluster) EMC-3 would very soon be opened there and that EMC-1 and EMC-2 were already established in the district.
With reference to Venkatagiri, the minister said that the atmosphere was conducive for setting up traditional handloom and handicraft units there. He said apparel and garment factories could also be set up there. This, he said, would be taken up if the NTPC does not use the land to set up a solar plant.
The minister said the government would give importance for setting up companies there which would have modern technology to suit the local needs. He recalled that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has always been giving importance for the development of backward areas. He said the Central government’s help would be sought for the Mannavaram project.
