Andhra Pradesh took the lead in prevention of crime against women by passing the Disha Bill during the last session of the assembly.
Following this, the Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney has appointed a woman IAS officer Dr. Kritika Shukla, IAS as DISHA Special Officer, a newly created post along with the existing post of Director, Women Development and Child Welfare on Thursday.
Similarly, a woman IPS officer M. Deepika, IPS holding the post of Additional SP of Karnool district as Special Officer, DISHA created out of IPS cadre in the office of the Additional Director General of Police, CID, Andhra Pradesh, a GO issued by the Governor said.
The Andhra Pradesh Disha Bill, 2019 was passed for making amendments in the Indian Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code for ensuring completion of investigation and trial within 21 working days and for providing death penalty in cases of sexual offences against women and children which are heinous in nature. The Bill also provides for establishment of Exclusive Special Courts for trial of such offences. Instructions have been issued for timely investigation and trail in cases of sexual offences against women and children.
