The AP government has been taking all measures to see that the people who travel to their native places for the Sankranti festival are not charged heavily by the private bus operators, said Minister for Transport and I & PR Perni Venkataramaiah.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, the minister said that 3,132 cases were booked between January 2 and 16 against private bus operators for over-charging and 544 buses were seized for violations, topping the list with 202 buses in Krishna district followed by 198 buses in Visakhapatnam district.
Moreover, the APSRTC had announced 4,900 special bus services in addition to the existing ones as per the demand during the festival time to check the exploitation by the private bus operators. The government made elaborate arrangements to bring people to their native places during the festival. The number of people who used the RTC services during January 2020 has increased from the number of people who used the services during January 2019.
Similarly, over 2,000 special buses would be plied by the RTC to take the people back to their destination after the festival ends today, the Minister said and added that the government had increased the number of buses for the convenience of the travellers during the festival time and that they can ring up 8309887955 on WhatsApp if they find that the private bus operators are fleecing them, the minister added.
