MUMBAI, SEPT 24

Apollo Hospitals Group on Tuesday announced a landmark achievement in its journey to revolutionise healthcare; counseling and managing over 11,000 genomic consultations through its Apollo Genomics Institutes across the country. This milestone marks a decisive step forward in integrating genomics into mainstream clinical care, empowering patients with knowledge, and shaping a healthier future for generations to come.

  •  With institutes across twelve cities, Apollo’s genomics initiative is helping families access preventive insights, early diagnoses, and personalised treatment pathways
  • Soha Ali Khan joins Dr. Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, as Apollo reinforces its leadership in precision medicine and preventive care.

India’s diverse genetic fabric, with more than 4,000 ethnic groups and a high prevalence of endogamy, presents both unique challenges and unparalleled opportunities in decoding disease patterns. By investing in genomic diagnostics and counseling at scale, Apollo Hospitals has been able to bridge critical gaps in preventive and personalised medicine.

The Apollo Genomics Institutes have expanded their presence across twelve key cities in India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. Staffed with a team of over 30 clinical geneticists and counsellors, these centres offer comprehensive genomic services, ranging from precise diagnostics and personalised treatment planning to ongoing patient care and guidance. While they provide specialised expertise in reproductive genomics, oncology, and rare genetic disorders, the institutes’ overarching mission is to democratise access to genomic insights, enabling families across diverse communities to make informed health decisions and benefit from the promise of precision medicine.

Speaking on this achievement, Dr. Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals, said: “Today, we celebrate a significant achievement in revolutionising healthcare with genomics. Reaching over 11,000 genomic consultations underscores the profound impact of integrating cutting-edge genetic insights into clinical practice.. We’re committed to making healthcare personalised and preventive. As we continue to expand our genomic capabilities, we are also dedicated to building awareness and aiding patients with knowledge about their genetic health. Our goal is to make genomic testing accessible and integral to standard healthcare, ensuring better outcomes for all.”

Adding a broader perspective, Soha Ali Khan said – “Health is more than the absence of disease; it is the presence of knowledge, awareness, and resilience. Today, genomics gives us that knowledge. It is about people, families, and the stories we inherit. It helps us detect risks early, personalise care, and turn uncertainty into healthier choices. As we celebrate 11,000 consultations in genomics, I believe our responsibility is clear: to ensure that these life-changing advances are not just for the few, but for every community, every family, everywhere.”

Reflecting on the clinical advances, Dr. Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director and Senior Consultant Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Apollo Hospitals said:“Genetics plays a crucial role in understanding various diseases and conditions. Reaching the milestone of 11,000 genomic consultations reflects our commitment to providing comprehensive genetic testing, counseling, and personalised treatment options to our patients. Led by a team of highly skilled geneticists, clinicians, and researchers, Genomics Institute is dedicated to advancing the field of medical genetics through innovative research, education, and patient care. Our specialists are equipped with state-of-the-art

Technology and resources to provide accurate genetic diagnoses and develop tailored treatment plans for individuals and families facing genetic disorders. Some of the major impact areas of Genomics are Preventive Genomics, Reproductive Genomics- Mother and Child, Specialty Genomics and Onco-Genetics.”

Apollo Hospitals remains steadfast in its mission to democratise genomics, bringing advanced genetic testing, preventive insights, and personalised care within reach of families across India. Through the integration of cutting-edge research, clinical expertise, and patient-centred services, the Group is transforming how healthcare is delivered, empowering individuals and communities to make informed decisions and take proactive steps toward better health.

Highlighting the transformative potential of genomics in India, Mr. Arunesh Punetha, Chief Executive Officer – Western Region, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Limited, said that India’s diversity and decreasing infant mortality rates have brought genetic disorders to the forefront, while growing health awareness is increasing recognition of the value of genomic tests in preventing and diagnosing genetic and non-communicable diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular conditions. Dr. Kshitija, Clinical Geneticist at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, added that genomics is transforming healthcare by enabling precise, personalized treatment, and that expanding genetic testing and counseling empowers patients with critical insights, integrates genomics into routine care, and makes advanced diagnostics accessible for informed decision-making and better health outcomes.

Sharing insights on patient-centric innovation, Dr. Dhavendra Kumar, Senior Consultant Adviser, Apollo Genomics Institutes, emphasized that patients are central to their health journey, and leveraging real-world data and patient-centric analytics allows genomics to personalize care, enhance prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, and underscores Apollo’s commitment to a healthier, more resilient society.

With a strong commitment to innovation, accessibility, and patient-centric care, Apollo Hospitals is reshaping the future of genomics, turning scientific breakthroughs into actionable insights that empower communities and foster a healthier, more informed India.
