AHMEDABAD, MAY 10

Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills on Friday announced a landmark in surgical innovation and women’s health. Dr. Rooma Sinha, Senior Consultant in Gynaecology and Robotic Surgery, has completed over 1,000 robotic procedures for benign gynaecological conditions—making her the highest-volume single robotic gynaecological surgeon in the country.

This achievement strengthens India’s position as a centre of excellence in robotic-assisted surgery, particularly in gynaecology. It also reflects the clinical depth of Apollo Hospitals and its role in shaping high-precision, minimally invasive treatment pathways for women across geographies.

Dr Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals said, “With Rooma’s historic completion of 1,000 robotic surgeries in benign gynecology, she is among the very few surgeons in the world to achieve this milestone and is first in India. More importantly, this accomplishment reflects the number of women who are now pain-free and healthier – thanks to this pioneering surgery.”

Robotic surgery enables enhanced precision, faster recovery, and improved fertility outcomes—especially critical in managing conditions like large fibroids, severe endometriosis, obesity, and previous surgical complications. These tools are particularly transformative for women in reproductive age groups, offering outcomes that traditional open procedures often compromise.

“In India, millions of women face gynaecological conditions that impact their daily lives, long-term health, and fertility. Robotic surgery provides safer and more effective solutions—especially for those navigating complex clinical histories,” said Dr. Rooma Sinha. “Every procedure has been a step toward dignity in women’s health, and this milestone reflects the trust of the patients, the strength of the institution, and the future of surgical excellence.”

This progress aligns with India’s broader healthcare vision—one focused on MedTech adoption, clinician upskilling, and globally benchmarked outcomes. Apollo Hospitals has been instrumental in embedding robotic surgery into everyday clinical practice and building a robust pipeline of trained surgical talent. Such advancements are positioning India as a contributor to global medical knowledge, not merely a recipient of technology.

The Jubilee Hills unit has also become a key destination for international patients seeking high-quality care under India’s Heal in India initiative. As demand grows for evidence-backed, technologically advanced, and cost-effective treatment, Apollo’s robotic surgery programme stands as a compelling choice for patients across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
