Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited forward posts in the central sector to assess operational readiness, motivate troops, and strengthen civil–military linkages in the strategically vital Kumaon region.

During the visit, the COAS reviewed formations deployed in high-altitude areas of Pithoragarh and nearby forward locations. He was briefed on capability enhancement measures, including advanced surveillance systems, specialist mobility platforms, next-generation technology integration, optimisation of reconnaissance assets, and coordination with allied security agencies.
General Dwivedi commended the professionalism, discipline, and tactical agility of the troops, appreciating their innovative use of new equipment in demanding terrain. Interacting with soldiers posted in remote areas, he praised their courage, resilience, and unwavering devotion to duty under harsh climatic conditions, reaffirming the Army’s ethos of “Service Before Self.”

The Army Chief also interacted with veterans and local communities, extending Diwali greetings to all ranks and their families. Emphasising the strategic importance of the Kumaon region—a gateway to the borders with Nepal and China—he lauded local patriotism and invoked the glorious legacy of the Kumaon Regiment.
Reviewing community development initiatives under Operation Sadbhavna and the Vibrant Village Programme, he appreciated projects such as tent-based homestays in Garbyang and Kalapani, improved road connectivity, hybrid power systems, medical camps, and agricultural support through polyhouses.
Concluding his tour, General Dwivedi reaffirmed the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to maintaining operational excellence, fostering civil-military harmony, and upholding the highest traditions of duty, honour, and service to the nation.
