The Minister inspected ongoing works at the Sabarmati High Speed Rail (HSR) Station, the Multimodal Transport Hub, and the Rolling Stock Depot, and expressed satisfaction over the pace of construction.
- Sabarmati HSR Station design draws inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s Charkha
- Multimodal hub to connect rail, metro, and BRTS networks seamlessly
“India’s first bullet train project is progressing rapidly and stands as a testament to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 — building world-class infrastructure that redefines public transport efficiency and passenger comfort,” said Vaishnaw.
Sabarmati HSR Station: Charkha-Inspired Landmark
The Sabarmati HSR Station, the terminal point of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor, draws inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s iconic Charkha at Sabarmati Ashram. Spread across 45,000 sq. m., the station will offer world-class passenger amenities including spacious waiting lounges, rest rooms, nurseries, and retail and commercial areas.
Minister Vaishnaw lauded the engineers, workers, and project teams for their dedication and reiterated that the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail will mark a transformational leap in India’s transport infrastructure, symbolizing “speed, sustainability, and self-reliance.”
Structural works up to the track floor have been completed, while interior and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) installations are in progress. The station will seamlessly connect to the Indian Railways network, Ahmedabad Metro, and the BRTS, making it a true multimodal transit hub.
Multimodal Transport Hub: Integrating Heritage with Modernity
The Sabarmati HSR Multimodal Hub has been designed as a cutting-edge transit facility ensuring smooth passenger movement between the HSR Station, Sabarmati railway station, Metro, and BRTS.
A striking stainless-steel mural depicting the Dandi March adorns the front façade, paying homage to the region’s historic legacy. The hub includes office spaces, hotels, retail outlets, restaurants, and parking for 1,200 vehicles. Sustainable design elements such as solar panels, landscaped terraces, and energy-efficient systems underline its green credentials.
Rolling Stock Depot: The Backbone of Bullet Train Operations
The Sabarmati HSR Rolling Stock Depot, the largest of the three depots planned under the MAHSR project, spans 84 hectares. It will handle light and heavy maintenance, stabling, inspection, and workshop operations for the high-speed trainsets.
Construction of the administration building, inspection sheds, and track infrastructure is progressing swiftly. The depot is being developed as an eco-friendly facility, incorporating rainwater harvesting, solar power systems, and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) mechanisms.
Project Progress: India’s First Bullet Train Takes Shape
Out of the total 508 km alignment, 325 km of viaduct and 400 km of pier works have been completed. Additionally, 17 river bridges, 5 PSC bridges, and 10 steel bridges are ready.
Track bed has been laid for 216 km, with over 4 lakh noise barriers installed to minimize sound pollution. Work on all Gujarat stations is in advanced stages, while the Mumbai underground section is progressing rapidly.
