AHMEDABAD, MAY 15

Aiming to tackle the virtual war unleashed by the new entrant AAP and the main opposition Congress in the model state of Gujarat, the Gujarat BJP’s two-day ‘chintan shivir’ began on Sunday at a golf resort on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, where party leaders discussed strategies for the state Assembly election likely to be held in December.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior national and state-level leaders, including Gujarat in charge and Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, joint in charge Sudhir Gupta, state party chief CR Paatil and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel remained present at the meeting.

Party officials said the achievements of the government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel were discussed at the meeting, and presentations were made on various issues.

“The meeting will discuss plans on how to win 182 seats in the upcoming election. Plans are prepared, opinions of the leaders are taken and decisions are made. The executive body of the state BJP will meet again once the poll process begins. It will pass resolutions based on the decisions,” state BJP spokesperson Yagnesh Dave said.

To counter the growing social media footprint of the AAP, the ruling BJP is revamping its digital campaigns by deploying ‘digital warriors’ and issuing NFC cards.

The BJP has formed 2,000 ‘digital warriors’ to spread the speeches of party leaders, messages on government schemes and the profiles of top leaders on social media platforms. The party’s NFC (Near Field Communication) cards aim to instantly link smart devices with social media handles of BJP leaders as well as ‘digital warriors’, who will reach out to villagers. A ‘war room’ will be set up to track the activities of digital warriors.

Gujarat BJP social media co-convener Manan Dani said the party will be using NFC cards to make the election campaign “hi-tech”.
