CHENNAI, DEC 15
Assurant Warranty Solutions (India) Private Limited, a subsidiary of US-based Assurant Inc., a leading global provider of comprehensive risk management solutions for the automobile, lifestyle, and housing protection sectors has on Wednesday announced the establishment of a Global Capacity Centre (GCC) in Chennai.
Addressing a group of senior journalists, Biju Nair, Executive VP & President, Global Connected Living, Assurant Inc., said, “Keeping in mind the abundant talent pool available in India, the Assurant has decided to establish a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Chennai. We are planning to hire 300 people – data scientists, software developers and claim administrators in the next 12 months in its operations in Chennai and Bengaluru facilities.’’
Replying to a query, he said Chennai will be the second GCC next to Argentina and Assurant Inc., has an annual revenue of $10 billion globally.
He further said, “Assurant was exploring making refurbished mobile devices available in India’s rural markets.”
“We collect 22 million devices globally every year that are in good condition. The barrier is the ability to import used electronic goods into India. So, we have been working with our teams to see if there can be a regulatory or a policy change to bring them and refurbish here,” he added.
“The contribution of Indian subsidiary to the group’s turnover is meager as of now, we hope it will touch double digit over the next three to five years. Currently, automotive business accounts for 90% of revenue and the rest from connected living. We expect to strike a balance between the two at 50:50 in five years,” said Srikanth Srinivasan, Country Head, India, Assurant Inc.
Subhashish Sengupta, Chief People Officer, Assurant Inc also present at the press briefing.
