The Tamil Nadu government signed six memoranda of understanding (MoU), including five related to cooperation among organisations, with various organisations of Singapore in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin and Singapore’s Minister of Trade Relations, S Iswaran.

The most important of the MoUs was the one signed between Hi-P International Pvt. Ltd and Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state government’s nodal agency for investment promotion to set up an electronic spare parts manufacturing factory. The unit would come up at a cost of Rs 312 crore and is expected to create around 700 jobs.

Guidance Tamil Nadu also signed MoUs with the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI) and the Singapore University of Technology and Design. These were related to areas such as research and development, technology transfer and assistance in exports.

State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (SIPCOT), Facilitating MSMEs of Tamil Nadu (FaMe TN) and Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (TANSIM) signed MoUs with the Singapore -India Partnership Office. These were in the areas of start-ups and technical education.
The Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation signed an MoU with ITE Education Services for skill development and technology transfer.
During his visit to Singapore, Chief Minister Stalin also met the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Temasek, Sembcorp, and CapitaLand. He urged them to invest in sectors like renewable energy and food processing.

The new project of Tamil Nadu government, ‘Verkalai Thedi (In search of roots)’ initiated by Chief Minister MK Stalin during his visit to Singapore will bring 200 non-resident Tamils every year to the state as part of a cultural exchange programme.

The Chief Minister also said that a statue of founding Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew would be constructed at Mannargudi. It is to be noted that several Tamil youths from the delta regions of Tamil Nadu, including Mannargudi have migrated to Singapore for a living and the announcement of the statue of Lee Kuan Yew is considered as an honour and thanksgiving to Lee Kuan Yew who had supported the Tamil diaspora during his tenure.
The Verkalai Thedi programme is for renewing the cultural links of the youths living in various foreign countries with Tamil Nadu.
