BSNL is gearing up to launch full scale 4G services in Kanyakumari District soon. This indigenously developed 4G Technology under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative of the Government of India for launching the fourth-generation mobile network in India is going to benefit the customers of Kanyakumari District in a big way.
The data capability and quality of the present network is going to be enhanced 4-5 times in the coming days, says Principal General Manager, Nagercoil Business Area.
The equipments are being supplied by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with technology backed by Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), a research wing under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and TEJAS Networks Bangalore.

- The noteworthy point of this technological up gradation is all the hardware supplied for the towers will be having built-in 5G Capability and can be upgraded to 5G just by software upgradation.
- 300 more new 4G towers are planned for Nagercoil Business Area, which will further double the BSNL mobile coverage in Kanyakumari District
- All the above up gradations will be carried out in a phased manner starting August this year
Under the initial trial phase of Implementation of this project, Nagercoil Business area which represents Kanyakumari District has been chosen as one of the location for deployment. During the upgradation, all the 292 existing towers of Nagercoil Business Area will be upgraded to 4G with 10 MHz spectrum. The Data speeds are expected to outperform the competition. The noteworthy point of this technological up gradation is all the hardware supplied for the towers will be having built-in 5G Capability and can be upgraded to 5G just by software upgradation.
In addition to the above, 300 more new 4G towers are planned for Nagercoil Business Area, which will further double the BSNL mobile coverage in Kanyakumari District. For taking up the heavy traffic loads of the places like bus stands, business places and Hospitals and to improve the customer mobile experience around 100 Micro towers are also planned.
All the above up gradations will be carried out in a phased manner starting August ’22. For the mobile network uptime and other operational parameters, Nagercoil BA is ranked All India first in entire BSNL in recent times. After completion of the above planned network up gradations and expansion the user experience and satisfaction of BSNL Mobile customers are expected to be far more superior. For availing this advanced 4G services of BSNL, the customers who are presently having BSNL 3G SIMs need to change to BSNL 4G SIMs from the nearby BSNL Customer Service Centres / Franchisee offices.
