The Ayurveda institute Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Minister of State in Ministry of Ayush Sripad Yesso Naik on Monday amid opposition by the Congress and All India Trinamool Congress.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Saugata Roy of the AITC said The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda Bill, 2020 seeks to set up an Ayurveda institute in Jamnagar of Gujarat which has no legacy of Ayurveda.
”Instead, the institute should be set up in Delhi, Varanasi, Kerala or West Bengal which has glorious tradition of Ayurveda instead Jamnagar in Gujarat,” he said, opposing the introduction of the Bill.
Congress leader, Shashi Tharoor, also questioned its establishment in Gujarat and asked why cannot this be set up in Thiruvananthapuram, he said there is no clarity in the definition of institution of national importance.
He said the Bill overlooked the legacy of Ayurveda in Kerala and demanded that before the introduction of the Bill, a debate should be held under Rule 272 (1) in the House.
The Bill represented the cluster of Ayurveda institutions in Gujarat, giving them the status of national importance. The Bill talks about conglomerating the cluster of Ayurveda institutes at Gujarat Ayurveda University campus, Jamnagar. Moreover, it was discussed to confer the status of Institution of National Importance to the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda Jamnagar.
Replying to them, Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Yasso Naik said this was the first institute in this series only and the Government will set up more after considering their proposals.
