The English department students of PKR Arts College for Women have organised three-day Adivasi Expo on their college campus in Gobichettipalayam, Erode district. It was inaugurated by Erode district collector H Krishnanunni on Tuesday.
The expo was conducted from April 5 to 7 in the UG Conference Hall.
The District Collector appreciated the students for taking up the concept, Adivasi Literature. He was surprised by the efforts of the students in the process of regenerating the organic lives. The District Forest Officer R Kiruba Shankkar applauded the students for their spirit towards recalling, recoloring, remembering and reminding the pioneer lives of the earth. He has suggested us to learn some of the practices, cultures, food habits and physical fitness from the tribes.
The exhibition targeted to bring out the tribal life, tribal dance, tribal parade, food and culture into the light. Their enriched color has been shown with different strokes by the students with spirit. Every model of the exhibition has taken the road to recall the flavor of Adivasis.
The students have been tuned for the beats of Santhali, Irulas and Badaga tribes. The students revealed the issues and challenges in getting education among tribal children through performing mime. The students also held a ramp show modeling as Baiga Tribe, Garo Tribe, Manvi Pant Tribe and Dimasa Tribe.
The Irula tribal people from Asanur, Erode District have kept Lantana Camera Furniture and forest essentials (Amla, Millets and Honey) in stall for sale. Lantana Furniture making is a part of the life of Irula tribes. Koraga tribe, Argami tribe, Gond tribe, Garo tribe, Bills tribe, Jarvas tribe, Saharia tribe, Oraon tribe, Munda tribes, Paniya tribe, Santhal tribe, Bodo tribe, Irula tribe, and Munduruku tribe have also been exhibited by the students.
The expo has been visited by government officials, NGOs, public and students from nearby colleges. The Secretary and Correspondent, Chief Executive Officer, Principal and Head of the Department have guided to make the expo a grand success. The students have proudly celebrated Adivasi Expo as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The expo was successful thanks to the dedication and guidance of Prof Ramya, Tribal Researcher, the students said.
