Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Andaman NCC Directorate on Monday announced that it will felicitate 20 families of the martyrs in Tamil Nadu Region on Republic Day, January 26, says a Defence release.
As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is launching a programme “Shaheedon ko shat-shat Naman ” on Republic Day, January 26, 2022, to honour the martyrs of the nation. In this programme, over 5,000 families of the martyrs who lost their invaluable life for the nation would be honoured starting January 26, 2022 to independence day i.e, August 15, 2022, the statement added.

NCC Directorates across India are conducting this felicitation programmes for the families of the martyrs across India. On the inaugural day, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Andaman Directorate will conduct this ceremony by honouring 20 families of the martyrs in Tamil Nadu Region on January 26. The families of the martyrs from Chennai, Madurai, Trichy and Coimbatore will be honoured by giving “Plaque of Gratitude” and also a wreath will be laid on the photograph of martyrs. In total, 263 martyrs’ families will be honoured in the Directorate’s Area of Responsibility, in the similar way till the 75th Independence Day of August 15, 2022. Prime Minister of India also honours the martyrs at the National War Memorial, Delhi on January 26.
To present the “Plaque of Gratitude”, NCC Officers, NCC cadets, ANOs, PI staff, Veterans and officials of state administration will be deployed. The NCC cadets nearest to the location will get a chance to interact with the NOKs and listen to the valorous stories of the martyrs on the occasion.
