AHMEDABAD, NOV 3

India Post is preparing to move beyond its traditional identity as a postal service provider to emerge as a more integrated logistics and parcel-delivery network. Signalling this transformation in Gujarat, the Department of Posts has created a dedicated Postmaster General (Logistics) position, with 2001-batch Indian Postal Service officer Krishna Kumar Yadav becoming the state’s first incumbent. The move is expected to give fresh momentum to mail processing, parcel movement, international postal services and transportation coordination, strengthening the efficiency and customer responsiveness of Gujarat’s extensive postal network.

A new logistics command centre for gujarat

Krishna Kumar Yadav assumed charge as Postmaster General (Logistics), Gujarat Circle, with effect from November 1, 2026. The newly created position will focus primarily on domestic mail, parcels and international mail, bringing several critical operational wings under a unified administrative structure.

All Railway Mail Service (RMS) offices, Foreign Post Offices (FPOs), Mail Motor Service (MMS) units and transportation services operating across Gujarat will function under his administrative control.

The newly established office will operate from Speed Post Bhavan, Shahibaug, Ahmedabad.

Yadav will discharge these additional responsibilities alongside his existing assignment as Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region.

Following his assumption of charge, he convened a meeting with officers of the Logistics Region to discuss the new responsibilities, operational arrangements and the future course of action.

He stressed the need for seamless logistics operations, timely processing of mail and parcels, and effective coordination of transportation arrangements.

He also directed officers to adapt to evolving business requirements, improve operational efficiency and ensure reliable, responsive and customer-centric postal services.

From postal operations to integrated logistics

The creation of a dedicated logistics leadership position reflects the growing importance of efficient transportation, parcel handling and delivery infrastructure in an increasingly competitive logistics market.

With e-commerce, cross-border trade and digital commerce generating rising expectations of speed, reliability and transparency, the postal network has an important opportunity to strengthen its position as an accessible and extensive delivery infrastructure.

The unified administrative oversight of RMS offices, FPOs, MMS units and transportation services is expected to facilitate better coordination across the various stages of mail and parcel movement.

Four decades of postal legacy meets administrative experience

An Indian Postal Service officer of the 2001 batch, Yadav began his administrative career on July 22, 2003, as Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Surat Division, Gujarat.

Over the years, he has held several important assignments across the country, serving in Surat, Lucknow, Kanpur, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Prayagraj, Jodhpur and Varanasi.

Currently serving as Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region, he has also been recognised among the ‘Top 25 Change Makers of 2025’ by Bureaucrats of India.

His experience across diverse geographical regions and administrative responsibilities is expected to contribute to the modernisation of Gujarat’s postal logistics infrastructure and the delivery of more efficient public services.

Senior officials welcome new appointment

On assuming charge, Yadav was welcomed by Senior Superintendent of Railway Mail Service Piyush Rajak, Assistant Director (Logistics) Mahesh Haran, Assistant Director (Mails, Parcels and International Mails) D. H. Tapasvi and other officers.
