Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha, the largest organization of Sindhi society in India, has appealed to the Government of Gujarat for the inclusion of a Sindhi chair under the Department of Minorities. This appeal was made during the recently concluded Global Sindhu Summit at EDII, Bhat, Ahmedabad by the representatives of the organization to Jagdish Panchal, Minister of State for Industries and Co-operation, Government of Gujarat.
Speaking on this, Nikhil Methiya, Youth President, Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha-Gujarat, and Co-ordinator, Global Sindhu Summit said, “The Sindhi community, known for their business inclination and strong trading skills, has always been contributing to the economy of Gujarat to a great extent. The formation of such a chair will help the community to nurture and grow its culture and traditions. We hope that the state government will sincerely consider our request and support the Sindhi community to prosper further”.
“The Sindhi community has always played an important role in the progress of Gujarat by being at the forefront of trade and industry. I also sincerely appeal to the Government of Gujarat to set up a Sindhi chair. We at EDII, would be happy to host such a chair as a dedicated and full-fledged center”, said Dr Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, Ahmedabad.
Sindhi industrialists, businessmen, and professionals from 10 countries participated in a grand event held on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) in Bhat, Ahmedabad. Representatives and dignitaries from various government institutions, including Gujarat’s Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Pradipsinh Parmar and Minister of State for Cottage Industries and Co-operation Jagdishbhai Panchal also graced the occasion.
Setting up a Sindhi chair will help the community to undertake research, organize seminars, impart training, and bring out publications on the socio-economic and educational development of the Sindhi youth. The main objective of this chair would be to provide a well-equipped Centre of learning for Sindhi intellectuals, academicians, policymakers, and students to undertake studies and research with an intention to understand, asses,s and disseminate the knowledge, ideas, and strategies drawn from Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Law, Religion, Philosophy, Constitutional Studies, Education, Social Work, Human Rights as well as other disciplines considered relevant for the attainment of overall development of Sindhi community. In achieving this objective, the Chair shall also undertake research and higher studies concerning the socio-economic and cultural life of the Sindhis.
The Chair shall serve as the Centre of learning and research on the issues concerning the socio-economic and cultural life of the Sindhi community. The management of the chair shall be administered by the Directorate of Minorities, Minorities Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat. Under the said chair, various activities will be planned like carrying out various studies regarding Socio-Economic conditions of the community, organizing various training programs for the selected individuals from the community, studying and surveying Sindhi schools of the Gujarat state, organizing various seminars, symposiums, discussions on Sindhi culture, traditions, rights, and other issues, to evaluate the govt. schemes and give appropriate suggestions and advice in implementing the schemes, etc.
