In a major rejig in the ministry, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has taken away two major departments – revenue, and roads and buildings – from two Cabinet Ministers Rajendra Trivedi and Purnesh Modi, respectively, on Saturday.
The CM will hold both the departments. While the revenue department was handed over to Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, the roads and buildings to MoS for Industries Jagdish Panchal.
Incidentally, BJP general secretary BL Santhosh is visiting the state on Sunday.
The changes were made with the consent of party higher-ups, including state unit chief CR Paatil, to stem alleged large-scale complaints of corruption in both departments.
After taking back the revenue portfolio from Rajendra Trivedi, he now has three departments – disaster management, law and judiciary and parliamentary affairs. Purnesh Modi has left transport, civil and aviation and tourism departments.
With these major changes, Harsh Sanghvi and Jagdish Panchal’s stature has increased in the government of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Earlier, Harsh Sanghvi held the portfolios of Home Affairs, Disaster Management and Police Housing, Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities (Independent Charge), Excise and Prohibition (Independent Charge), Border Security and Prisons (Independent Charge). Now the revenue department has also been added to them. At the same time, Jagdish Panchal had independent charge of cottage industry, cooperation, sweets industry, protocol and industry, forest-environment, climate change, printing and stationery. Now the road and buildings department has also been added to it.
