The advanced robotic platform will be deployed across oncology, gastrointestinal surgery, urology, thoracic surgery, gynaecology and complex general surgery, enabling surgeons to perform intricate procedures with enhanced accuracy. It will support sophisticated interventions involving the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, biliary tract, intestines, rectum, anal canal, and urological organs including the kidney, ureter, bladder and prostate. The system will also assist in minimally invasive treatments for reproductive tract disorders, retroperitoneal tumours and thoracic tumours.
- Next-gen India-made SSi Mantra 3 system to drive precision, safety and faster recovery
- Robotic platform to support oncology, GI, urology, thoracic, gynaecology and advanced general surgeries
- High-definition 3D imaging, modular robotic arms to enhance outcomes in intricate procedures
- Hospital aims to make minimally invasive robotic surgery more accessible and affordable
The hospital noted that the technology will strengthen its ability to perform complex hernia repairs, bile duct exploration, diaphragmatic repair, hiatus hernia fundoplication, metabolic and bariatric procedures, hysterectomy and tubal reimplantation. High-end specialties such as liver transplantation and cardiac bypass are also expected to benefit from the increased dexterity and stability of robotic instrumentation.
At the core of the SSi Mantra 3’s design are 3 to 5 fully modular robotic arms and a suite of 40+ robotic endo-surgical instruments, allowing precise configuration for each surgery. Its open-face console integrates an ultra-sharp 32-inch 4K 3D display, ergonomic controls and head-tracking safety mechanisms, giving surgeons superior visibility and steadier manoeuvring during prolonged procedures.
“We are pleased to launch a centre of excellence for robot-assisted surgery. Our goal is to democratise minimally invasive care by making it accessible and affordable for our patients. Those who require laparoscopic procedures should consider robotic surgery, as both follow the same minimally invasive principles. With a robot-assisted approach, even complex operations can be performed more safely, with faster recovery and shorter hospital stays — ultimately reducing overall treatment costs. This is especially beneficial for cancer patients who need intricate resections or long surgical hours. The minimally invasive technique also enables patients to get out of bed the very next day, significantly supporting quicker recovery,” said Dr Rajesh Jeganathan, Chairman, Billroth Hospitals.
He further emphasised that robotic technology represents a major leap in surgical precision. The SSi Mantra 3 offers a 10x magnified 4K 3D view, delivering unparalleled clarity while retaining the depth perception associated with open surgery. The stable robotic interface minimises unintended movements, reduces blood loss and enhances accuracy. With a range of motion surpassing natural human capability, the robotic arms access hard-to-reach anatomical regions with ease. Surgeons also benefit from an ergonomically designed console, enabling fatigue-free operation during long and complex procedures.
With this launch, Billroth Hospitals aims to set new benchmarks in affordable, high-precision robotic care while broadening access to advanced surgical solutions for patients across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
