Bishnu Prasad Nanda, a Senior Officer of Indian Railways Health Service (IRHS), has been appointed as the Director General Railway Health Services, Railway Board, New Delhi.
A release from the Railway Board said that “this is the apex post of the Health Department in the Railway Board. B P Nanda was serving as Principal Chief Medical Director, Southern Railway before this promotion as DGRHS, which was decided by the Railway Ministry with the approval of the President of India.
Hailing from Chhatia Village of Jajpur District in Odisha, Nanda, after graduating in medicine from SCB Medical College, Cuttack in 1981, appeared for the Combined Medical Services Examination of UPSC exam in 1983 and secured All India 1st position.
After joining the then Indian Railway Medical Services Nanda has worked in various Divisions and Zones of Indian Railways in various capacities. Nanda did his post graduation in ENT from Mumbai University and has worked in Kharagpur, Nagpur, Adra, and Chakradharpur before being posted to Southern Railway as Chief Medical Superintendent.
Promoted as Principal Chief Medical Director of Southern Railway in 2018, Nanda was instrumental in many system improvements in the Medical department of Southern Railway like E-Procurement of medical supplies in all the six divisions of Southern Railway including the prestigious Perambur Railway Hospital at Ayanavaram in Chennai.
