CHENNAI, MARCH 13
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not compromise on the interest of the Tamil Nadu people, said newly-appointed State President of the party L. Murugan here on Friday.
Addressing the reporters after assuming the charge as State President, Murugan said, “I express my gratitude to all the state leaders for giving me a warm welcome. I would work along with them in improving the party’s strength in the state.”
He said that his first and foremost job is to strengthen the booth-level committees across the state and see that BJP would be prominent in all the booths. The majority of the youths especially educated come towards the party because of its people-friendly policies.
When asked whether the party would take the national line, he said, “We intend to concentrate on the problems faced by the people and would address them with a local approach.’’
Reiterating the dream of his predecessor and now Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan’s slogan “Thamarai Thamizhagathil Malarnthe Theerum (Lotus will certainly bloom in TN)’’, Murugan said that the party will have a considerable number of MLAs in the next state assembly. He would strive hard in that direction with the cooperation of senior leaders.
When asked about actor Rajinikanth’s aspirations to lead a party and not to become a Chief Minister, Murugan replied “in a democratic country anyone can form a party, but our aim is to strengthen our party and ideologies.’’
Hundreds of party cadres thronged to the state headquarters “Kamalalayam’’ in T. Nagar to greet their new state chief.
Former Union Ministers C.P. Radhakrishnan, Pon Radhakrishnan, Party’s National Secretary H. Raja, Senior Leader L.Ganesan, State General Secretaries Narendran, Vanathi Srinivasan and others were present during the press briefing.
