Business Network International (BNI), one of the largest referral marketing organisation, is betting on India to more than triple its global membership to one million in 10 years, said a top official here on Friday.
“Right now, BNI supports over three lakh member businesses in over 77 countries worldwide. Achieving one million is possible, if we get deeper into tier 2, 3 and 4 cities as early as possible. India will be a leading country in membership in four to five years,” said its Founder and Chief Visionary Officer Ivan Misner during a press meet.

To celebrate its 50,000+ Members Milestone in India, the BNI has organized a two-day mega networking conference to begin on Saturday at a resort in Mahabalipuram. For the first time, it is expected that over 4K members from around the world are expected to attend the conference. A Hungary-based company transacting with hundreds of companies in India is sponsoring this conference.
Emphasising what it takes to lead through the most complex and confounding problems, Dr Ivan said, “Every economy goes through cycles, and business slows down for some people. This is the time your network is your advantage. However, successful networking is about developing a network in the good times so you can reap its fruits during the times you need it the most. BNI not only supports startup businesses, it also helps existing businesses scale their companies by maximizing relationships, to build a powerful personal network to generate referrals for life.”
He further added, “BNI Members worldwide are consistently making a remarkable difference by engaging in effective networking and word-of-mouth marketing. I’m proud of BNI India for scaling the 50000 members’ mark. Answering a query, he said the retention rate of membership is hovering around 67 per cent at global level and it is 68 per cent in India. He also said that the BNI is purely a platform of networking among various groups of business among themselves and it did not charge any fee for the transactions happened between the members. It collects joining fee of Rs. 48,000 in India.
Answering another query, he said that BNI will take efforts to introduce its website contents in regional languages for the benefit of those living in remotest corners of the country.
BNI has 173 chapters with a membership of over 8179 members and generating a business of Rs. 3,290.98 crore during the past one year, he added.
Hemu Suvarna, BNI India National Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the organisation’s remarkable growth and the prospect of an even more significant impact in the future.
Mac Srinivasan, Global Markets President, emphasised BNI’s crucial role in connecting entrepreneurs globally and facilitating business growth through referrals.
