NEW DELHI, JAN 7
Renault India, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Renault Group, has announced a landmark durability milestone for its much-awaited and iconic SUV, the new Renault Duster, which has successfully completed an intensive global testing programme spanning over 1 million kilometres across three continents.
Put through one of the most rigorous validation regimes in its segment, the upcoming Duster was tested in extreme temperatures ranging from –23°C to 55°C, across diverse terrains and climates, ensuring it is thoroughly engineered for real-world Indian driving conditions as well as global standards.
1 Million Kilometres of Relentless Validation
The new Renault Duster underwent long-term endurance testing, covering a cumulative 1 million kilometres across R&D tracks, global proving grounds and public roads, pushing the vehicle to its mechanical and structural limits. These tests were designed to validate durability, stability, safety and performance over extended usage cycles.
This milestone reinforces the Duster’s DNA as a “born-to-conquer” SUV, poised to carry forward the legacy of its predecessor while setting new benchmarks for ruggedness and reliability.
Altitude Mastery: Tested in the Thin Air of the Himalayas
Among the most demanding trials was the high-altitude mission in Leh-Ladakh, where the new Duster proved its resilience in low-oxygen conditions. The SUV successfully reached Khardung La at 5,602 metres (18,379 feet) — one of the world’s highest motorable passes — validating its powertrain robustness, braking performance, thermal efficiency and overall drivability in extreme altitudes.
From Arctic Chill to Desert Heat: The Ultimate Climate Trial
The Duster was subjected to specialised climate testing across a wide temperature spectrum of –23°C to 55°C, including:
- Sub-zero cold tests to validate cold-start performance and component reliability
- High-ambient heat trials to assess thermal management and cooling efficiency
- Dust tunnel testing to ensure sealing integrity and long-term component protection
- Water-wading zones to confirm all-weather capability and electrical safety
These trials ensure that the SUV delivers consistent performance across seasons and terrains.
Built for India, Proven Worldwide
To validate its readiness for Indian driving realities, the new Duster underwent pan-India city drives and exhaustive tests on specialised government tracks such as NATRAX, ARAI, GARC and ICAT. These evaluations simulated rough roads, varied speed-breaker profiles, steep inclines and bumper-to-bumper urban traffic, ensuring everyday usability without compromising rugged capability.
Complementing this was global ride and handling tuning conducted across Brazil, Romania, France, China and the Czech Republic, delivering world-class driving dynamics with a distinctly Indian focus.
‘A Statement of Intent,’ Says Renault Group India CEO
Commenting on the testing milestone, Stephane Deblaise, CEO, Renault Group India, said, “Completing 1 million kilometres of testing across three continents is not just a validation target for us — it is a statement of intent. We have taken the new Duster to the most demanding terrains and climates on the planet, including the extremes of the Himalayas, to ensure that when this Icon returns to India, it does so fully prepared for real-world Indian conditions. We believe true capability cannot be rushed. This milestone reflects our confidence that the reborn Duster is engineered to deliver uncompromised performance, safety, and durability — no matter where or how it is driven.”
A Game-Changer Set for Republic Day 2026
Designed to strike a refined balance between ruggedness and modern handling, the new Renault Duster promises assured high-speed stability, confident cornering and exceptional rough-road capability — hallmarks that have defined the Duster nameplate.
The iconic SUV will be officially unveiled on Republic Day, January 26, 2026, marking the return of a legend engineered for the next generation of Indian motorists.
