Whether in the sports field or in life, both victory and defeat are our companions but we have to learn from the defeats. We should always aspire to bring glory to the country and take it forward as we gear up to stake claim for hosting the Olympics in 2036, said Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 19th National Inter District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM) at the Gujarat University Ground, Ahmedabad here on Friday.
In his pep talk, Bhupendrabhai Patel said, “It is a matter of great joy to host the world’s largest grassroots talent hunt in our state. Whether in the sports field or in life, both victory and defeat are our companions but by learning from the defeats, we should always aspire to bring glory to the country and take it forward. With the goal of holding Olympic 2036 as the focus in Gujarat, we have given thrust to sports infrastructure development by increasing the budget allocation multi-fold.”

“We have also got many successes from the global sports arena in the last 10 years. Owing to the visionary Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi’s guidance and efforts our sportsmen have been receiving more and more international medals. After the grand success of Khel Mahakumbh in Gujarat, the Prime Minister has started Khelo India at the national level to tap the potential of young talents in every nook and corner of the country. This has paid rich dividends doubling the enthusiasm of the young sportspersons across the country.”

Gujarat Sports Minister Harshbhai Sanghvi said, “India’s presence on the global sports map has grown exponentially. The sports is no longer just about competitions; it’s a booming economic sector with immense potential. A large share of credit for this transformation goes to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, whose enthusiasm and consistent support for our athletes have played a pivotal role.”
“The NIDJAM competition will also be a career path for the youth with the aim of honing the sports talent. The energy of the players gathered from all over the country today will bring new heights in the world of sports. I wish all the athletes and sports lovers who are imbibing ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat.’ Gujarat is getting great success at the national level due to the support of the Chief Minister and all sports federations and sports department of Gujarat. Gujarat has started at the grass root level which has got this big opportunity. Heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers of Gujarat and the department who made this program a success,” the sports minister added..
More than 5,500 athletes from 616 districts of 31 states and union territories are participating in the three-day sports event, which began on February 16.
In which 3,365 boys contestants while 2,193 girls contestants have participated. Among the 1105 coaches in the organized competition, 835 male coaches while 270 female coaches are also providing complete guidance to the players. This comprehensive program is being spearheaded by the Government of Gujarat, Sports Authority of Gujarat, Athletics Federation of India, Gujarat University and the Rural Electrification Corporation.
AFI President Adil Sumeriwala, Principal Secretary (In-charge) Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department Ashwini Kumar, Director General of Sports Authority of Gujarat RS Ninama, Secretary of Sports Authority IR Vala, and Dignitaries, including Swarnim Gujarat Sports University Vice Chancellor and OSD Sports Authority Gujarat Arjun Singh Rana, Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Nirja Gupta, Gujarat Police Chief Vikas Sahay, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik were present. A program of music and dance was organized by the youth and children during the inauguration of the event. Along with this, a film related to sports was also shown by NIDJAM.
