BR Prajapati, president of Gujarat Journalists Union (GJU), has been re-elected unanimously as President of Indian Journalists Union (IJU).
He was re-elected to the top post at an election held here on May 10, a release said on Friday. G Prabhakaran, Kerala Journalists Union, was elected unopposed to the post of Secretary General of IJU.
U Vikraman, Central Returning Officer (CRO) for IJU election, declared the results on June 5 . Other office-bearers will be elected by National Council members at the next plenary session of IJU, which claims to represent over 25,000 journalists in the country, the release said.
Incidentally, to strengthen the unity of journalists, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir units of journalist unions have merged with the IJU at a meeting held at the Press Club of India in New Delhi in May, said BR Prajapati, president, IJU.
It was attended by Srinivas Reddy of AP, IJU secretary general G Prabhakaran, Sinha, Prembhargav, Balvindar Singh of Jammu, National Executive Committee Members U Vikraman, and Babulal Choudhary.
Senior journalist leaders Mihir Ganguliji of West Bengal, Gourishankar Acharyji of Bihar, Yadavji of Madhya Pradesh have extended their support to this merger move.
