GANDHINAGAR, AUGUST 28
The Indian Coast Guard on Wednesday announced it has undertaken 5 daring missions to rescue 33 stranded people in Gujarat.
“The Indian Coast Guard Dist HQ 1, (South Gujarat, Daman &Diu) responded with full swing to the emergency situation of evacuation of people marooned at various places where ground teams of National/State Disaster Relief agencies were unable to reach many areas due to heavy flow & high-level of water. The heroic air evacuation was undertaken despite conditions of low cloud base and reducing visibility in rains,” an ICG release said.
“Acting swiftly upon receiving requests from the Civil Administration on Wednesday evening, ICG Air Enclave at Porbandar launched an Advanced Light Helicopter in rescue mission. In operations spanning five missions, a total of 33 people were rescued, including 07 women and 10 children from Kantol, Thepada, Erda, Mal, Fatana and Pithad villages in Porbandar and Jamnagar Districts,” the statement added.
The rescued people were stranded at rooftops and other makeshift locations due to overflowing river and flooding of villages due to incessant rains.
Heavy rains and very high intensity of winds have been prevalent in Saurashtra-Kutch Regions following deep depression off Naliya. Despite the challenging conditions and low visibility, the ICG ALH helicopter deftly evacuated all affected personnel from danger zones within a very limited time window, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Many among the rescued people, including Children, who were dehydrated and exhausted, were provided with medical aid at CG Air Enclave, Porbandar, prior being handed over to State agencies.
These missions are testament to Indian Coast Guard’s motto of ‘We Protect’. Indian Coast Guard remains vigilant and prepared to respond to any emergencies to safeguard lives.
