British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis and Deputy High Commissioner Peter Cook paid a courtesy call on Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel here on Friday.
Cook had a word of praise for the Gujarati diaspora’s achievements and contribution in Britain’s trade and commerce. He also expressed his desire to strengthen the relation between Gujarat and the UK.
Even as Government of India has inked an MoU with UK for a 10-year roadmap of cooperation in the field of Security, Defence and Healthcare, the Chief Minister discussed how could Gujarat come up with more contributions.

Bhupendra Patel said, “Gujarat is a leading state in India in the field of clean energy, green mobility, green manufacturing and can partner in green technology solutions and climate financing. Gujarati students’ first preference for higher studies is Britain, while there is great scope for common syllabus in universities, colleges, technology, tourism, management and artificial intelligence.”
He suggested them to visit the world’s tallest statue, Statue of Unity, built at Kevadia in the tribal area for all round development of the tribals, as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Patel presented a replica of Statue of Unity and a booklet describing the distinct features of Kevadia complex to them. He also asked the British high commissioner how to achieve global development with the mantra of ‘sauna saath, sauna vikas’ with Atmanirbhar.
He extended an invitation through the High Commissioner to the UK high-level delegation to the forthcoming Vibrant Summit-2022.
The High Commissioner also invited Patel to UK.
Others present during the meeting included Chief Minister’s Chief Principal Secretary K Kailashnathan, Additional Chief Secretary for Industries Rajiv Kumar Gupta, Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi.
