Ahmedabad-based civil rights organisations will observe a statewide bandh today, December 19, to register their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, and National Register for Citizens. The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) has extended its full support to the bandh. The protesters will converge at Jhansi Rani Staute near Shivranjini Char Rasta at 5 pm. Many trade unions will also join in this mass protests, said Amrish Patel, trade union leader and senior advocate. Students from many educational institutes like IIM and colleges will also be present to show their solidarity. Police have stepped up security measures all over the state to tackle the protests.
