Four people, including the driver, killed and two others were grievously injured in an accident in which a car and truck collided head-on on Monday morning.
The car bound for Chennai from Puducherry and the truck proceeding towards Puducherry collided head-on around 7 am, police said.
The accident took place when Senthil of Saram in Puducherry town was travelling along with his friend Murthy and relatives to attend a function in the city. The truck collided with the car at Kunnathur near Kalpakkam on the East Coast Road.
Senthil, Murugan, driver Jayabalan were crushed to death on the spot while three others – Murthy, Sundaravadanan, and Suba were trapped in the car. Due to the impact, the front portion of both the vehicles were badly damaged.
Mamallapuram police rescued the three from the mangled remains of the car and rushed them to the Government General Hospital, Chengalpattu. Murthy died, while the condition of Sundaravadanan and Suba are said to be critical.
Due to this accident, traffic on ECR was disrupted for a while. Police, Fire and Rescue personnel involved in rescue operations cleared the vehicles to pave way for resumption of normal traffic.
Mamallapuram police have registered a case and investigating.
