In one of the largest community-driven environmental initiatives in the country, Sadhguru’s Save Soil–Cauvery Calling movement has launched an ambitious mission to plant 12 crore saplings during 2026-27, reinforcing its commitment to ecological restoration, climate resilience and sustainable farming.

The campaign was formally launched on World Environment Day through more than 140 events held across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The programme witnessed the participation of political leaders, environmental advocates, farmers, volunteers and community members united by a common goal — restoring green cover and securing the future of agriculture.
The movement has already facilitated the planting of 13.4 crore trees, making it one of India’s most significant agroforestry and environmental conservation initiatives.
Leaders Join Hands for a Greener Future
At a special event held at Annai Velankanni College in Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar, Saidapet MLA Arul Prakasam, film producer and musician Shoba Chandrasekhar, and college chairman Devaraj planted saplings to inaugurate the campaign.
In Puducherry, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy launched the plantation drive, underlining the importance of collaborative environmental action.
Speaking at the event, Speaker JCD Prabhakar said:
“நோயற்ற வாழ்வாகிய குறைவற்ற செல்வத்தைப் பெற வேண்டுமெனில் சுற்றுச்சூழல் அவசியம் என்பதை ஈஷா தன்னுடைய செயல்பாட்டின் மூலமாக மக்களுக்கு தெரிவிக்கிறது. உள்நிலை மாற்றத்தை வளர்ப்பதற்காக அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்ட ஈஷா யோகா மையம், அதைத் தாண்டி உலகச் சுற்றுச்சூழல் தினத்தைக் கொண்டாடுவதும், காவிரி கூக்குரல் போன்ற இயக்கங்கள் மூலம் மரவளர்ப்பை முன்னெடுப்பதும் மிக பொருத்தமானதாக இருக்கிறது.
நம் தமிழ்நாட்டில் அனைத்து வளங்களும் இருக்கின்றன. வனவளம் போன்றவை வளர்ந்தால் மழைப் பொழிவு அதிகமாகி விவசாய உற்பத்தி பெருக வழிவகுக்கும். இதற்கேற்ப, முதலமைச்சர் கனிமவளக் கொள்ளைகளைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்த, இயற்கை வளங்களைப் பேணி காக்க அதிரடி உத்தரவுகளைப் பிறப்பித்து வருகிறார். வரும் 2031-ஆம் ஆண்டுக்குள் காடுகளின் பரப்பை 33 சதவீதமாக உயர்த்த உறுதியேற்று இருக்கிறார். சாயப்பட்டறை கழிவுகள் நீர்நிலைகளில் கலப்பதைத் தடுக்கவும், காற்று மாசுபடுவதைத் தவிர்க்கவும், ஆற்றங்கரைகளில் பசுமைப் பூங்காக்கள் அமைக்கவும், சதுப்பு நிலக் காடுகளைப் பாதுகாக்கவும், கூவம் நதியை மீட்டெடுக்கவும் முதல்வர் சிறப்பான திட்டங்களைத் தீட்டி, தொலைநோக்குப் பார்வையோடு செயல்பட்டு வருகிறார்.”
A Tribute to Soil, Trees and Nature
One of the most memorable moments of the event came from film producer and musician Shoba Chandrasekhar, who spoke passionately about humanity’s relationship with nature.
She said:
“இந்த விழாவில் மனிதர்களைப் பற்றிப் பேசாமல், மண்ணையும், மரத்தையும் பற்றி பேசவும், அவற்றிற்கு நன்றி செலுத்தவுமே கூடியிருக்கிறோம். ‘மண்ணு மாதிரி இருக்கியே’, ‘மரமண்டையா இருக்கியே’ என்று மனிதர்களைத் திட்டுவது எவ்வளவு பெரிய தவறு என்பதை நாம் உணர்ந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும். மண்ணையும் மரத்தையும் போல நாம் பிறருக்குப் பயனுள்ளதாக வாழ்ந்தாலே போதுமானது.
மரங்கள் என்பவை ‘வானத்தை நோக்கிப் பூமி எழுதிய கவிதைகள்’ என்று கவிஞர் கலீல் ஜிப்ரான் எழுதியுள்ளார். உண்மைதான், இங்கு இருக்கின்ற மரங்களை எல்லாம் பாருங்கள். அவை வானத்தை நோக்கி உயர்ந்து எழுதிய கவிதை போல இருக்கின்றன. அந்த அற்புதமான கவிதையை அழிக்கவோ அல்லது சாய்க்கவோ நமக்கு எந்த உரிமையும் கிடையாது. மண் காப்போம் இயக்கத்தை உருவாக்கி, உலக அளவிலான விழிப்புணர்வையும் சீர்திருத்த நடவடிக்கைகளையும் மேற்கொண்ட சத்குருவிற்கு என் மனமார்ந்த நன்றி மற்றும் வாழ்த்துகள்.
‘மண் காப்போம் – காவேரி கூக்குரல்’ இயக்கம் இதுவரை 13.4 கோடி மரங்களை விவசாய நிலங்களில் நட்டு, 2.6 லட்சம் விவசாயிகளை மரம் சார்ந்த விவசாயத்திற்கு மாறச் செய்து உலக சாதனை படைத்துள்ளது. கடலூரில் உள்ள காவேரி கூக்குரல் நாற்றுப்பண்ணை ஆண்டுக்குச் சுமார் 85 லட்சம் மரக்கன்றுகளை உற்பத்தி செய்யும் திறன் கொண்டது. இது ஆசியாவின் மிகப்பெரிய நாற்றுப்பண்ணைகளில் ஒன்றாகவும், முழுமையாகப் பெண்களால் நிர்வகிக்கப்படும் மிகப்பெரிய பண்ணையாகவும் திகழ்கிறது. இதனை சாத்தியமாக்கும் தன்னார்வலர்களுக்கு வாழ்த்துகள்.”
One Lakh Saplings Planted on Launch Day
To mark World Environment Day, Cauvery Calling volunteers and farmers planted more than one lakh saplings across Tamil Nadu.
The plantation effort covered 317 acres of farmland, kick-starting large-scale agroforestry activities for the current year.
Events were organised district-wise across the State, with participation from legislators, district officials, environmentalists and prominent community leaders.
This year’s campaign aligns with the United Nations World Environment Day theme: “Let’s Draw Inspiration from Nature for Our Climate and Future.”
Transforming Agriculture Through Tree-Based Farming
Launched under the guidance of Sadhguru, Cauvery Calling seeks to revive the Cauvery River ecosystem while simultaneously improving farmer livelihoods.
The movement promotes tree-based agriculture across the Cauvery basin, encouraging farmers to integrate economically valuable trees with traditional crops.
So far, more than 2.6 lakh farmers have adopted agroforestry practices through the initiative.
The model delivers multiple benefits, including improved soil fertility, enhanced groundwater recharge, increased biodiversity and stronger farm incomes.
According to the movement, farmers adopting tree-based agriculture can potentially increase their earnings by three to five times over conventional farming methods.
Women-Led Nurseries Power the Green Revolution
A major pillar of the movement’s success is its large-scale nursery network.
The Cauvery Calling nursery at Cuddalore, recognised as one of Asia’s largest and among the largest fully women-managed nurseries, produces approximately 85 lakh saplings annually.
A second nursery in Tiruvannamalai contributes another 15 lakh saplings every year.
Together, these facilities supply saplings to 45 distribution centres in Tamil Nadu and eight centres in Karnataka, helping farmers access high-quality planting material at affordable prices.
The nurseries provide saplings of valuable timber species such as teak, red sanders, sandalwood, vengai, mahogany and rosewood, along with income-generating crops such as pepper, avocado and nutmeg.
Beyond Plantation: Supporting Farmers Every Step of the Way
The initiative goes beyond merely supplying saplings.
Cauvery Calling field teams provide free technical guidance on species selection, water management, weed control, intercropping and long-term plantation maintenance.
Experts regularly visit farms to ensure successful implementation of agroforestry practices, helping farmers maximise ecological and economic benefits.
As climate challenges intensify and sustainable agriculture becomes increasingly important, Cauvery Calling’s latest plantation drive stands as a powerful example of how environmental stewardship, community participation and rural development can work hand in hand to create lasting impact.
