The Central Bureau of Investigation organised an International Anti-Corruption Day-2022 and Investiture ceremony in New Delhi, on Friday. Dr PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister delivered key note address on “Anti-Corruption efforts-A sine qua non for Development and Security” and presented Police Medals for Meritorious Service to 34 CBI officers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr PK Mishra, congratulated the medal winners and their families. He emphasized that tackling the crime of corruption is the right and responsibility of everyone. Stating that the impact of corruption is especially heavy on common citizens, even more on poorer and vulnerable persons in communities, he stressed that Corruption encourages dysfunctionality in government and perpetrates economic inefficiency and can be a serious threat to national security.
Mishra stated that corruption, whether small or big, takes away the rights of someone or the other. Referring to the theme of International Anti Corruption Day, UNCAC at 20: Uniting the world against corruption, Mishra underlined that this reflects universal nature of corruption and the need for all countries to move together in fighting it. Stating that corruption is as old as administration, Mishra underscored that after liberalization in India, the nature of corruption has become more complex. With technological development, he said, there are opportunities to prevent corruption but there are also areas where corruption can be much more difficult to trace particularly in areas like cryptocurrency.
Mishra further emphasized the importance of innovative anti-corruption solutions. He also called for real-time information sharing between law enforcement agencies and underlined that India is ready to play an active role towards fighting various types of crimes with cross border linkages including financial crimes. He also said that India is ready to cooperate with other countries and agencies.
In his welcome address, Director, CBI Subodh Kumar Jaiswal also congratulated the medal winners and emphaised the need for curbing corruption. Referring to the Interpol General Assembly(IGA) which India hosted recently, he said IGA resolved that all 195 INTERPOL member countries shall actively and collectively support the fight against organized crime, financial crime and corruption. He also spoke about major operations carried out by CBI in recent past, such as “Operation Trishul”, “Garuda” and “Chakra” as examples of successful information sharing and cooperation.
The event was attended by CVC, Vigilance Commissioners; member Lokpal; UPSC chairman; senior govt and police officials; International Police Liaison officers from various embassies. The event was also joined virtually by all CBI branches across the country.
