CHENNAI, DEC 21

Members of the Coordination Committee of Tamil Nadu Farmers Associations (CCTNFA) paid floral tributes to their leader late Narayanasamy Naidu on his 35th death anniversary here on Saturday.

President of CCTNFA P.R. Pandian paid floral tributes to the portrait of Narayanasamy Naidu at the association state headquarters in Besant Nagar along with the office-bearers of the Chennai, neighbouring Kanchipuram and also farmers from Delta districts.

Addressing reporters after paying tributes to the farmers’ leader, Pandian thanked the state government for its gesture in constructing Mani Mandapam in memory of the late leader at his native village in Coimbatore district and celebrating as government function on Saturday.

On this, occasion, Pandian appealed the central government to revoke the recent withdrawal of 4 per cent interest subsidy for gold loan for agriculture purposes. BJP-led NDA government’s decision on this will have cascading effect on agriculture production.

Keeping in view the sacrifices of Narayanasamy Naidu on his death anniversary, he urged the central government to announce remunerative Minimum Support Price of Rs. 2,500 per quintal for paddy. BJP has betrayed the farmers, as the party failed to keep up its promise on implementation of M.S. Swaminathan Committee recommendation of giving remunerative prices to agriculture commodities based on its cost of production.

Give priority to organic products in ICDS

Pandian has suggested the state government to give priority to buy organic produces for nutritious meal scheme and also for anganwadi centres in the state.
