The CDA Chennai celebrated Defence Accounts Department Foundation Day here on Saturday. Defence Accounts Department came into existence to its current setup on October 1, 1951 from its predecessor “Military Accounts Department”.
This day 01st October is being celebrated as DAD Day throughout the length and breadth of the country in all offices of the Defence Accounts Department, says a release.
To mark this event, various sports events, cultural shows, Quiz competitions etc were conducted. Blood Donation camp was also conducted by the Red Cross Society as a part of DAD Celebrations in which around 50 members donated blood.

CDA Chennai Jayaseelan T, IDAS presided over the celebrations held in the office premises. Lt Gen A Arun, YSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commander (GoC) of Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area was the esteemed Chief Guest. GOC spoke about the importance of Defence Accounts Department in the functioning of the armed forces. The GoC gave the highly prestigious and meritorious GoC Award to five hardworking and dedicated staff members of DAD department.
⇑ One among the award winners was a visually challenged telephone operator named S Selvi. Her voice is the most familiar voice among all the staff of CDA Chennai having served for the last 25 years. While awarding the commendation medal to Selvi, the GOC came down from the stage to the audience place and honoured Selvi along with her daughter. The GoC, CDA and the entire audience were pleased and cherished the moment with joy recognising the valuable service rendered by the Visually challenged official.
The closing event was attended by around 400 staff members and various IDAS officers from different organisations in Chennai and Prizes were distributed for the winners of the events conducted.
