NE NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, OCT 7

In a major relief measure for flood-affected regions, the High-Level Committee (HLC) chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah has approved ₹707.97 crore of additional Central assistance to Assam and Gujarat under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for damages caused by floods and landslides during 2024.

Of this, ₹394.28 crore has been sanctioned for Gujarat, reaffirming the Central Government’s commitment to supporting the State in rebuilding critical infrastructure and restoring livelihoods. Assam will receive ₹313.69 crore.

This assistance comes in addition to the regular funds released to States under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), underscoring the Centre’s proactive disaster management approach.

Nationwide Disaster Relief and Fire Safety Modernisation

The HLC also approved ₹903.67 crore under NDRF for the expansion and modernization of fire services in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, of which ₹676.33 crore will be provided as Central assistance.
The State-wise breakup includes ₹117.19 crore for Haryana, ₹397.54 crore for Madhya Pradesh, and ₹388.94 crore for Rajasthan.

Gujarat’s Relief Package: Strengthening Resilience

The ₹394 crore Central package for Gujarat will help speed up restoration of rural and urban infrastructure, water supply systems, public utilities, and agricultural recovery in the regions hit by heavy rains and floods during 2024.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with the States during natural calamities, ensuring timely financial and logistical assistance to mitigate losses and strengthen local resilience.

Record Central Support in FY 2025–26

During the financial year 2025–26, the Central Government has:

  • Released ₹13,603.20 crore to 27 States under SDRF,
  • Allocated ₹2,024.04 crore under NDRF to 12 States,
  • Disbursed ₹4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 States, and
  • Released ₹372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to 9 States.

Building a Safer, Stronger India

The latest approvals reflect the Government’s comprehensive disaster management strategy, combining financial preparedness, modernization of emergency services, and community resilience.

For Gujarat, this aid marks a renewed effort to strengthen the State’s flood management systems and disaster response infrastructure, ensuring that communities recover faster and emerge stronger.
