Acceding to Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani’s representation to Union Home
Minister Amitbhai Shah, the Centre has permitted the state government to conduct
Solidarity Trial for the ‘COVID-19’ virus at B J Medical College in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, to obtain the permissions to conduct similar trials at four other colleges
are the under process, says a senior government official.
With availing the permission from the Government of India, the registration
process for conducting the trials on ‘COVID-19’ patients has began at the B J
Medical College in Ahmedabad.
After obtaining the permission for four other colleges during this week, the
registration of the COVID-19 patients and medical trials of four medicines –
‘Solidarity Trial’ – will begin at SVP College in Ahmedabad, GMERS Medical
College at Gotri-Vadodara, Government Medical College and New Civil Hospital at
Surat, and PDU Medical College at Rajkot.
These four medicines are Remdesivir, Lopinavir, Interferon (beta 1 a) and
hydroxychloroquine or Chloroquine.
The international clinical trial ‘Solidarity Trial’ for the ‘COVID-19’ is being
conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in association with others in
more than 100 countries across the world. Similarly, the WHO is going to conduct
‘Solidarity Trial’ in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
in India.
As a result of these experiments – trials, effective proper medicine for the COVID-
19 will be found quickly. Not only this, but it will also enhance the probability of
faster recovery of the infected patients, the release added.
Covid-19 cases up by 376 to 5,804; single-day death toll 29
The state on Monday reported 376 new COVID-19 cases and 29 deaths, which is the
highest single-day toll so far, a Health department official said.
With this, the total number of cases in the state rose to 5,804, and the death toll to
319, the official said.
The official said that 26 of the 29 deaths were reported from Ahmedabad alone.
Vadodara reported two deaths and Surat one.
A total of 153 patients were discharged on Monday, taking the number of the
recovered to 1,195 so far.
Of the new cases, Ahmedabad reported 259, Vadodara 35, Bhavnagar 21, and Surat
20, the official said.
21,500 migrant workers return to their native states through
18 trains in the last 3 days, says CM
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has made provisions following the guidelines issued by
the MHA to ensure that the migrant workers from Gujarat safely return to their
respective states, a senior official said here on Monday.
Providing details of the same, Secretary to CM Ashwani Kumar said, “21,500
workers have been successfully sent to their respective homes via special labour
trains in the last 3 days. 7 trains were arranged from Surat to Orissa, 1 train for
Jharkhand and Bihar each, 6 trains from Ahmedabad to UP, 3 trains to Bihar, 1
train each from Vadodara, Palanpur and Nadiad to UP.”
Dial District Collectorate helpline number 1077
The state government shall arrange more trains for the migrant workers as and
when the Central Government approves more trains for Gujarat for the same. The
migrant workers are required to provide their details to the concerned District
Collector on the 1077 helpline number.
Plans afoot for jewellers from Botad, Amreli, Bhavnagar working in
Surat
There are many jewellers from various parts of Gujarat such as Botad, Amreli,
Bhavnagar etc working in Surat. The Chief Minister is deliberating on the ways to
ensure that they reach their native place safely. The state government shall decide
on this at an appropriate time. The matter, at present, is under consideration.
The jewellers will undergo a health check-up in Surat in a phase-wise manner and
they will undergo the same process when they reach their respective native
districts/villages. The Municipal Corporation / Panchayat will be the nodal
authority to put them under a 14-day quarantine if required. They will not be
allowed to leave Surat in case they are suffering from cold, fever, cough, etc. At the
same time, they will not be allowed to return to Surat for a minimum period of one
month after they reach their native place. The District Collector of Surat will form a
roadmap under the guidance of the state government after a detailed discussion
with concerned District Collectors.
Food distribution for 61 lakh non-NFSA APL-1 cardholders
The state government will also begin free food distribution for 61 lakh non-NFSA
APL-1 card holding families, i.e. around 2.5 crore people through 17,000 fair price
shops from May 7 to May 11, 2020. It will be compulsory for people to wear masks
while availing of food grains. The government will follow ‘No Mask, No Grain’
motto this time.
Dates for free food grain distribution for non-NFSA APL-1 cardholders based on the
last digit are as following:
Cardholders with the last digit as 1 and 2 will avail the grains on May 7; 3 and 4 on
May 8; 5 and 6 on May 9; 7 and 8 on May 10; and 9 and 10 on May 11, 2020.
The government has decided to continue the distribution on May 12, 2020 for all
those beneficiaries who are unable to avail the grains as the per aforesaid slots due
to unavoidable circumstances.
3,000 industrial units have re-started in Jamnagar and Junagadh
Around 3,000 industrial units have re-started in Jamnagar and Junagadh after the
new guidelines for Lockdown 3.0 issued by MHA for restarting industrial units in
Orange and Green Zones. Around 30,000 labourers have resumed their duties.
Buses services shall be restarted for Green Zones with a 50% capacity.
CM praises Jain Samaj, young tailors of Kutch for freely stitching
and distributing one lakh masks daily
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday congratulated the Madhpar (Kutch) Jain
Samaj and young tailors for stitching and distributing free-of-cost one lakh masks
daily in collaboration with the administration to combat and contain novel
coronavirus COVID-19.
Talking to the rural youth through video-conferencing from Gandhinagar, he
described the service of the corona warriors in this hour of crisis as divine. He said
that mask is a vital protection gear against the spread of the virus via droplets while
coughing, sneezing, exhaling, and even while talking.
Rupani urged the young brigade to themselves observe and spread the message of
social- distancing to the careless and callous citizens during lockdown to wear the
mask and wash hands with soap after touching contaminated object or surface. He
likened a violation of social-distancing as murder or suicide. He said this war
against corona is likely to continue long.
State govt to ensure strict implementation of Lockdown 3.0: DGP
Director-General of Police Shivanand Jha on Monday said that the third phase of
the lockdown will be strictly enforced in the state to prevent the transmission of the
coronavirus. The state government has formulated the policy rationally as per the
guidelines of the central government. The citizens must continue cooperating as
they have done so far.
Exhorts migrants to observe patience to return home
Migrants from other states must observe patience and cooperative to reach their
homeland. To ensure that they reach their homes safely, the state administration
has arranged trains and private buses. If people take the law into their hands, strict
actions will be taken against them.
In lockdown 3.0, a special focus is on the red zone areas with a high transmission
rate. The complete cooperation of people in this area is essential. Arrangements
have been made to reduce traffic in places where there are more cases by creating
containment zones. Continuous monitoring through videography and CCTV in
these areas is being done as well as intensive checking of vehicles and individuals
will also be done. People in these zones and surrounding shall be alert and careful
to avoid the need for new containment zones. Jha also informed that Maninagar in
Ahmedabad has been declared a new containment zone.
Jha said that implementation of the lockdown will continue to be strict in zones
other than red as well. If non-permitted shops or services are open in other areas,
legal action will be taken as per the rules. The rule applies to orange as well as green
zones.
Jha requested people in green zones to stay vigilant and not loiter unnecessarily or
legal actions will be taken. Pan-masala shops, school as well as colleges will remain
closed across the state and entry in religious places will continue to be prohibited.
Talking about attacks on Corona Warriors, Jha said the police will not tolerate this
act and strict actions will be taken against the attackers. The attackers will be
booked under PASA. So far, 54 individuals have been booked under PASA for 23
offenses.
Throwing light on the significant use of drones and CCTV during the lockdown, Jha
said that, the cities and towns are being thoroughly observed through drone
surveillance. 86 crimes have been registered through drones. A total of 20,963
people have been arrested for 11,064 offenses to date. Meanwhile, under the Smart
City and VISWAS project, 133 individuals have been arrested for 118 crimes
reported through the CCTV network tallying up to 3576 individuals for 2482 crimes.
Additionally, 33 crimes have been registered so far and 33 people have been
arrested through CCTV’s in residential societies.
Similarly, for spreading fake messages and rumors through social media, so far 644
crimes have been registered and 1,327 accused have been arrested. 21 accounts have
been blocked.153 and 17 offenses have been registered, respectively, through
videography and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). 760 offenses have
been registered so far with mounted cameras special 'Prahari' Van.
Cases that have been registered so far include 2,103 of the violation of lockdown,
1059 against those violating home quarantine, and 625 other cases. 6,600 vehicles
have been seized in the state, added Jha. Police have released 1,71,165 detained
vehicles so far.
