The Indian Coast Guard North West Region announced that Inspector General Tekur Sashi Kumar, TM has taken over as COMCG (NW) on Saturday, says an ICG releases said on Saturday.
Inspector General Anil Kumar Harbola, TM is relinquishing command of ICG North West Region as Commander Coast Guard Region (North West) after 03 years of successful tenure encompassing a string of achievements and operational success at sea.
“The incoming commander Inspector General Tekur Sashi Kumar, TM has rich operational experience and has commanded ICG Ships of various classes, ICG Air Station Chennai & has served in numerous frontline units of ICG wherein he has undertaken numerous tactical, rescue and relief operations. Prior to assuming the present assignment, he was serving as Deputy Director General (HRD & Aviation) at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi,” the release added.
The ICG Region, North West, responsible for maritime strategic and sensitive state of Gujarat & UT of Daman & Diu witnessed major operations during the 3 year tenure of IG AK Harbola, TM. The Flag Officer maintained singular focus on strict sea/coast vigil resulting in apprehension of 123 intruders. The officer also spearheaded close coordination with ATS, NCB resulting in 11 anti-narcotic operations, seizing contraband worth Rs 3,313.55 cr and arrest of 81 smugglers.
172 lives were saved under his leadership, notable operations among these were evacuation of 50 crew from Oil Rig Key Singapore during cyclone Biparjoy. The Flag Officer steered proactive actions at sea during buildup of the cyclone last year which ensured nil casualty at sea. Best Initiative Award to ICG organized by Gujarat One Media House, by the hands of Hon’ble Chief Minister Gujarat, was received by Flag Officer towards these efforts.
The Flag Officer is proceeding to Mumbai to assume next higher rank of Additional Director General and the post of Coast Guard Commander Western Sea Board. As CGC (WS), he will be responsible for ICG charter in the entire western coast from Gujarat to Kerala, including Lakshadweep islands.
