Chennai Division of the Southern Railway announced that as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav it conducted “two-week Swatchhata Pakhwada” drive from July 1st to 15th 2022. This programme was mainly conducted to create awareness among the Railway personnel, rail users, housekeeping staff, and general public to keep the railway stations and premises neat and tidy, says a release.
In this connection, Chennai Division joined hands with the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (CPCL) and Greater Chennai Corporation for conducting various awareness programmes on Solid Waste Management at all the Railway Stations, including Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore. On 13th July 2022, an awareness pledge was also taken at all railway stations and railway schools of Chennai Division.
Chennai Petroleum Corporation volunteers have organized street plays, signature campaigns, pamphlets and paper bags distribution to the housekeeping staff, cleanliness awareness video was also played at 75 major railway stations in Chennai Division.
Prateek Motawani, Senior Divisional Environment and Housekeeping Manager, Chennai Division along with Greater Chennai Corporation Officials, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Officials and various staff of Chennai Division also participated in the awareness programme.
