As a prominent gateway to the south, Chennai International Airport is getting the much desired make over with the Phase I of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) slated for commissioning this December, and a prelude to which is the operationalisation of the new Multi-Level Car Parking from tomorrow (Sunday, December 04 ,2022 at 00: 01 am).
Chennai International Airport, the third largest airport in India in terms of International passenger traffic volume, is witnessing tremendous revival post pandemic.
- The opening of MLCP will be a major infra boost for the airport which boast of Multimodal connectivity, the first in India with expansive road and rail network and exclusive direct link to metro rail.

Where is the MLCP located?
The MLCP, constructed on the existing airport parking lot with 2.5 lakh Sq. ft. total built up area, flanking the airport metro station as East and West MLCP. The facility can comfortably accommodate 2,150 cars, is expected to decongest the terminal arrival & pick up zones. The East MLCP 750+ car park slots while West will accommodate the rest (1,400+) and two wheelers as well.
Key highlights
The six- storeyed structure, has mechanised parking slots, EV charging stations and a host of spacious commercial amenities going with it, including multiplexes (5 screens), food courts, retail shops, children engagement zones, and restaurants for convenience of passengers and public.
There will be exclusive retail area in the East MLCP which is getting added in phased manner, and food courts are present in East and West blocks.
The East and West MLCP has Sky walk bridges measuring approximately 65 metres in length connecting to the departure level. In the East MLCP the user access is from third floor and in the West, it is from second floor.
There are dedicated slots for Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRMs) in MLCP.
EV charging points
Continuing with these efforts to augment visitor/passenger experience at Chennai Airport, the MLCP will have Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations (points) catering to visitors using electric cars. The West MLCP will have 03 EV charging stations while the East MLCP will have 02 such stations. With dedicated charging stations for electric cars, the parking facility will keep pace with changes in the market, and charging points will increase accessing the requirement in future. Visitors driving to MLCP can pre-book for the EV charging slots and make payments on the dedicated app, which will be functional with commencement of MLCP.

The existing circulation of the airport parking lot, within which these parcels sit to be re-designed so that traffic circulation is integrated with the building design while serving the needs of the airport terminal building. Adequate Signages are in place and traffic marshals are deployed to guide passengers for easy transit in premises post operationalisation of MLCP.
Once the MLCP is operationalised the entire surface parking will make way for beautiful landscaping with sustainable, eco- friendly features which, will enhance the aesthetic contour of the city side of Chennai International Airport.
