Chennai Division of Southern Railway has set a new landmark in freight loading despite challenges due to the novel Corona virus. In the recent times, the freight business of the division has surged new heights through active liasoning with different companies attracting new stream of traffic, says a release.
New stream of traffic captured back after 5 years. Chennai Division loaded its first rake with Muriate of Potash of M/s Indian Potash Limited to Gudivada in Andhra Pradesh. The rake left Chennai Harbour on 07.09.20 with 1338 tonnes of MOP generating revenue of Rs. 9.57 lakhs. pic.twitter.com/9kg3QI3duK

Business Development Unit (BDU) of Chennai Division stayed in touch with the industries and canvassed various incentive schemes and discounts available for freight customers.
Sustained efforts in freight arena have borne fruits. During the last six days nearly 8,000 tonnes of MOP (Muriate of Potash) has been transported from Chennai Harbour to different locations in 50 kgs bags and moved through BCN wagons.

The Chennai Division has generated a total revenue of Rs 70,11,519 from moving these six rakes up to September 14, 2020. Apart from these, ground stock of 25,000 tonnes of MOP is ready for further course of dispatch which may bring a huge revenue to the Railways, a release added.
