In a political development poised to reshape the power calculus of Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, V. K. Sasikala on Thursday announced that the name of her new political party will be revealed within a week, formally marking her high-stakes re-entry into electoral politics and signalling the rise of a new Dravidian contender.

Her announcement comes days after she unveiled a new party flag symbolising continuity with the ideological legacy of Dravidian stalwarts including C. N. Annadurai, M. G. Ramachandran and her political mentor J. Jayalalithaa—a move widely seen as an attempt to reclaim her political inheritance and reconnect with grassroots cadres.
“We Are About to Witness a New Political Chapter”
Sasikala, who remained politically inactive for nearly nine years following her expulsion from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), framed her new party as a mission rooted in ideology and public service.
“We are about to witness a new political chapter. We are going to launch a new party,” she declared earlier while unveiling the party flag.
Emphasising her resolve and experience, she added: “If I continue to remain silent as I have for the past nine years, it would amount to a betrayal of the people of Tamil Nadu… we are going to usher in a new era.”
She also asserted that the new political outfit would function as a people-centric force, committed to the welfare of the poor and marginalised.
“It will be a Dravidian party following Anna, MGR and Jayalalithaa’s footsteps… a party for the common man.”
Confident of Public Support, Undeterred by Timeline
Despite the limited time remaining before the Assembly elections, Sasikala expressed strong confidence in mobilising support statewide.
She said the people of Tamil Nadu are already familiar with her long political journey and leadership role, making organisational mobilisation achievable within a compressed timeline.
Political observers note that her entry could potentially transform the electoral battlefield into a four-cornered contest.
Alliance Signals and Strategic Implications
Sasikala’s confirmation of alliance talks has triggered intense speculation over possible alignments, with analysts viewing her return as a wildcard capable of reshaping traditional vote banks and caste equations.

Her re-entry follows years of internal conflicts and expulsion from the AIADMK, which she had once led after Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016.
Political experts say the formation of a new Dravidian party could significantly alter electoral arithmetic, especially if it attracts disgruntled cadres and loyalists still emotionally connected to Jayalalithaa’s legacy.

During her interaction with the media, Sasikala also paid homage to veteran Communist leader R. Nallakannu, remembering him as a lifelong champion of the poor.
“He was affectionate with everyone and stayed true to his ideology throughout his life. His passing is a huge and irreparable loss to his family and his movement,” she said.
A Political Comeback That Could Redefine Tamil Nadu’s Power Matrix
Sasikala’s announcement marks one of the most consequential political comebacks in recent Tamil Nadu history, with the potential to fracture traditional loyalties, trigger new alliances, and reshape electoral narratives ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.
Her new party, built on the emotional legacy of Jayalalithaa and rooted in Dravidian ideology, now stands poised to challenge established political formations and alter the trajectory of the state’s political future.
