Chennai based Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU), one of the leading single specialty healthcare facilities in the field of urology has unveiled the ‘daVinciRobot’ to offer minimally-invasive and precise surgeries at an affordable cost.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Medical and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian virtually launched the ‘daVinciRobo’ recently, said Dr B Arun Kumar, Managing Director, Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology on Friday.
Explaining the functioning of the daVinci Robot to the media, Dr Arun Kumar, Managing Director, Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, said, “We are thrilled to become one of the single specialty hospitals across India to offer the daVinci Robot. With its advanced capabilities, we can now perform complex and delicate surgeries with greater accuracy and precision, reducing the patient’s pain and scar, resulting in a quicker recovery time.”
Reply to a query, Dr Arun Kumar said though the cost of the Robotic procedure is little bit costlier than the conventional open surgeries, it has advantages like minimally-invasive, precise and even complicated cases can be performed with ease. Robotic surgeries have the advantages of quick healing and less blood loss, he added.
The Tamil Nadu government was the first state in entire nation to launch daVinciRobot at Omandurar Government Medical College Hospital last year, Dr Arun Kumar adds.
Reply to another query, Dr Arun Kumar said that as of now all private health insurance companies accepts claims for da Vinci Robotic surgeries.

Free cancer screening camp on World Kidney Day
To mark the launch of the da Vinci Robot, AINU Chennai is committed to raising awareness of urological cancers and their prevention. To this end, AINU Chennai is conducting a free screening camp for senior citizens above 60 years of age on the occasion of World Kidney Day and the launch of the robotic surgical system as well as screening camp with focus on the detection of kidney, bladder, and prostate cancer, and aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of urological cancers to the public.
Dr B Arun Kumar said, “At AINU, we are committed to promoting awareness of urological cancers and their prevention. Through this free screening camp, we hope to reach out to the community and provide them with the knowledge they need to prevent and manage these types of cancers. We believe that early detection is the key to successful treatment, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about their health.”
The screening camp is open to all senior citizens above the age of 60, and will include free consultations with specialist doctors. This initiative is part of AINU’s commitment to promoting public health and providing access to world-class healthcare services to the community.
An official of the intuitive, supplier of da Vinci Robotic medical equipment told navjeevanexpress.com that there were more than 10 hospitals including the Omandurar Government Medical College Hospital in Chennai has da Vinci Robot equipment. Few hospitals in Coimbatore, Madurai and Namakkal in Tamil Nadu has da Vinci Robot facility.
