As many as 1,09,778 candidates filed their nomination papers for the forthcoming elections for the rural local bodies till Friday, says a release from SEC.
Elections for the village panchayats including for the post of president are being held on non-political basis. A total number of 75,170 candidates filed nomination papers for ward councillors in village panchayats and for 26,245 filed nominations for president’s posts.
The rural local body election to be held to elect people’s representatives for District Panchayat and Panchayat Unions are held on political basis. However, the post of District Panchayat Chairmen and Chairmen of Panchayat Unions’ will be elected indirectly as per the government order.
Till Friday, 7,659 candidates filed nomination papers for Panchayat Union Councillors and 704 filed nominations for District Panchayat Councillors.
Altogether, a total number of 1,09,778 nomination papers were filed across 29 districts except the 9 bifurcated districts.
