To mark the 44th Coast Guard Day, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has conducted a mega sporting event at VIT Chennai campus on Sunday.
The events were organised to spread awareness about sports and fitness amongst public as part of Govt of India vision of “Fit India Movement”, said a defence press release.
The event has been designed in an innovative manner to involve all participants in adventure, fitness and sports activity throughout the day. The challenge included Coast Guard Mariners challenge, an obstacle course exposing the participants to various challenges faced by mariners at sea, F-45 Fitness challenge, to test the muscular strength, decathlon sports activities, which included games like football, cricket, volleyball and basketball and fitness workshops such as Zumba, Kalari, Silambam, Yoga and nutrition were part of the events.
The event had five categories of participants viz. Corporate, College Boys, College Girls, Armed Forces and individual registration. All the categories were awarded with prizes and trophies and all participants were provided merit certificates.
Forty teams and more than 300 individual participants took part in the event. DJ, food stalls, Coast Guard awareness stall and rest area were also arranged at the venue to entertain the participants. The management and students of VIT assisted the Coast Guard team in coordinating the event in a professional manner.
The event commenced early in the morning and finals were held at 4 hrs followed by prize distribution ceremony.
Shiny Wilson, renowned Indian Athlete was the Chief Guest for the event and Inspector General S Paramesh, PTM, TM Commander Coast Guard (East) and VP, VIT Chennai graced the finals and prize distribution ceremony. Commandant S Premkumar was the overall coordinator of the event, a release adds.
